Wooden Hook Figure From Govemas Village, Blackwater R, PNG

  
I bought this figure from the late great New Guinea Primitive Arts in Sydney, Australia, in the late 1990s. Full figured carvings from this region are uncommon. This one has the hook motif typical of this region protruding from its torso. The holes probably had fiber tassels at one time. Measures 78 1/2 cm or 30 7/8 tall.
