Vintage 1966 Enid Collins Box'Pavan' from Collins of Texas Box Purse. This sought-after collectible, an original vintage wood box purse by Enid Collins' Collins of Texas, has a black lacquered wood base and its exterior is hand-decorated with paint and rhinestone cabochon in turquoise, gold and green. It has brass-tone feet, a brass-tone piano hinge, a black plastic inverted U-shaped handle and leather loop on a brass-tone fastener. The peacock motif is hugely popular with Collins of Texas collectors and recurs in Enid Collins' bag designs.
Here, in a bag style named "Pavan, " the peacocks are in a courtship dance, or pavan. The bag style name and the initials "ec" (c) for Enid Collin are on the lower front. The original round mirror and iconic signature are on the interior. The black base is scarce / HTF.
11 7/8 L x 6 1/2 H x 2 3/4 D in. Very good vintage condition with minimal signs of wear. The black paint is particularly very good. NOT all cabochon/rhinestones are present.
Four missing blue tail feather stones and the round stone for the eye of the peacock on the right were recently replaced with vintage stones. A few others are missing. Note that there is some minor surface wear, minor scratches, tiny nicks and scuffs - all consistent with age and storage. The original mirror is intact.
