We have a gorgeous find here. A folk art carving of a horse head from a piece of what we believe is American Chestnut root.
The carving is very attractive and detailed. I can assure you 100% that its not 2014. Slight possibility that it could be 1814 but more realistically 1914. This piece is a barn find from an early estate and was still hanging from a beam. We dusted it and thankfully it came right back to life. There appears to be a very early finish on some of the head as pictured. Measures about 27 inches long. Likely Extinct Chestnut and very solid.
