SPIRIT FIGURE FROM THE SEPIK REGION OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA. Extraordinary spirit figure from the Middle Sepik region. Carved wood with small cowrie shell eyes.

The extended nose septum held in both hands, joins the navel. We call him'the flute player'. He has been a treasured item in our collection for over 30 years. The tune he is playing must be a love song as evidenced by his large appendage.

A small grass skirt is supplied to spare the blushes of your maiden aunts. Genuine antique appearance with attractive patina. Most items were collected by ourselves while we were living and working in Papua New Guinea in the 1980's.

We are now downsizing from our large old farmhouse to something more manageable for our age. Some carvings have signs of wear and tear due to age. Some have cracking which occurs as a result of taking items from the tropics to a colder, drier environment.
