General Protestant Episcopal Sunday School Union and Church Book Society, NY, 1859. 154pp, illustrated with 10 botanical plates in color printed on heavy plate paper, with tissue guards, plus an illustrated half-title, decorated blue cloth with ornamental gilt, some overlay and occasional foxing noted at plates, hinges a bit loose, light to moderate general wear, extremities worn, corners fraying a bit. The last plate is detached and laid in. 1802, at New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina, d. 1881, was a painter, sculptor, and musician, as well as an author. The present title has the distinction of being the first book written exclusively for children by a North Carolinian.
