Old Dayak Borneo Pig Mask / Handheld Iban Ceremonial Mask from Borneo This is a fine example of a handheld Kayan Hudoq mask. They were used in dances by senior male society members.

This particular mask is a combination of animalistic features. The snout is long, it's mouth bearing large teeth. The forward-facing eyes are very humanistic, while the tusks give off a mammalian flair. According to the traditional beliefs of the Bahau, Busang, Modang, Ao'heng and Penihing people, the Hudog Mask worn by dancers who represent pests, and wear jackets made of tree bark. This pig mask is a m. Some of the native people however, may use the mask as a protection artifact, to be hung on a wall.

Judging its paint and natural patina, the mask is over 70 years of age. Circa 1960, paints remain beautiful.
