Many Wood "Carvings" from Old Furniture - Mystery here: in the early 1960s, I became known as an antique picker. But it went beyond that. I don't recall all the details of all my Saturday out gather of the stuff; but I do recall one episode whereby there was a shed and an old guy (70s - 80s) who had a cabinet shop. The shop was not real large. We'd call it a "shed".

It was full of these kind of things. Artistic decorations off of old clocks, mirrors, furniture; different shapes. No plastic; over 2/3 walnut, many walnut pieces with burl, but the burl has come off of many of them and some are okay but not with the piece they came off of. I believe that I have an eye for beauty and also a run-away imagination. I had planned to use them in decorative fashion, but now at 86 acknowledging health and having to work obstacles, the dream will go unfulfilled.

Of March, the temperature outside became very tasty. Two beautiful sunny days came about.

I wanted to be outdoors, so I went through one box full of about 80 or more pieces. Having worked on early 1900s wood of numerous designs, like old telephones, I would have enjoyed using some of these pieces on the cabinetry 30 years ago.

I priced each piece with chalk. I do this rather instinctively. I don't have time to coddle each piece: to clean and individualize each.

Most of these pieces date to a pre-teen era; some in the teens but 90 % well before the mid or even early 1920s. There are some which have trivial "damage" but they don't interfere with overall quality.

If you are into restoring walnut or oak antique furniture like clocks, dressers, desks etc, these could be a valuable asset. I took a few pictures on the picnic table of these things. To have them made now days would likely cost double what they are marked; and these are genuine old wood, not new or recent wood.
