The fine quarter leather binding is very well preserved, despite a few superficial scuffs to the leather it has remained supple and not deteriorated.

The marbled boards are clean and tidy. The top edge of the text block is gilt covered and this is clean and bright. The contents of the volumes are collated by the noted lady historian Mary Anne Everett Wood.

The text is clean and unmarked. The fold out facsimiles of the correspondents signatures are present and in very good condition.
