Henri Laurens was born in Paris on February 18, 1885. In his hometown he attended drawing courses and in the following years he devoted himself to sculpture, creating works that reflect the influence of Auguste Rodin. In 1911 he formed a lasting friendship with Georges Braque, who introduced him to Cubism, a field in which Laurens was active until 1925, creating polychrome bas-reliefs that represent true plastic transpositions of Cubist pictorial research. Laurens participates for the first time at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris in 1913; two years later he knows Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris, Amedeo Modigliani, becomes a friend of Pierre Reverdy and in the same year illustrates the Poèmes en prose. In 1917 it holds a personal to the Galerie l'Effort Moderne of Léonce Rosenberg, with which it signs a contract the following year.

In the twenties it devotes him to projects of architecture and scenographies. In 1932-33 he divided his time between Paris and the nearby Etang-la-Ville, where he had as neighbors Aristide Maillol and Ker-Xavier Roussel. Contributes substantially to the Exposition Internationale des Arts in Paris in 1937 and the following year participates in a traveling group exhibition with Braque and Picasso, later presented in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen.

In 1945 his works are exhibited at the Galerie Louis Carré in Paris and in 1947 at the Buchholz Gallery in New York. In these years he made prints for the illustration of books. Participate in the Venice Biennale in 1948 and 1950, while in 1949 the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels devotes a large retrospective, as well as the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris in 1951. The following year the University of Caracas commissioned a monumental sculpture.

Laurens dies in Paris on May 5, 1954. Color fidelity of photos presented is not guaranteed. Lack of a condition statement does not imply that a lot is perfect.
