In good condition with no holes, tears or missing paint. The oil could use a light cleaning, due to the age. The frame has minor scratches due to the age. Educated at the Royal art academy in 1911. Co-founded an art school in 1912 with his fellow artist friends: Mogens Vantore, Peter Hansen, Immanuel Ibsen and Sven Bruun.
Gudmundsen-Holmgreen was from his youth fascinated by mythology works and worked with bold modern compositions depicturing nude Aphrodite and nymphs. From 1922, Gudmundsen-Holmgreen lived and worked in Munich, Germany and Florence, Italy and begun a more realistic expression period, strongly inspired by the early Italian Renaissance painters and the works of Albrecht Dürer. Gudmundsen-Holmgreen later worked and traveled in France from 1928,1936 and Greece from 1958. The works of Gudmundsen-Holmgreen are characterized by strong movements in his figure works containing strong brushstrokes.
His Later works were much more colorful and had strong dominating blue, green or yellow lights. Gudmundsen-Holmgreen was much awarded for his achievements and received the Raben-Levetzau award in 1916 and 1918. All our items are located at our gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark.
