This is a trunk that is monogram general j h Barkley on the side. Lock has a date of 1800s. This trunk belonged to a general.

This antique has been in my family for over 40 years. When I first meet my husband we found information on General J H Barkley being in the Spanish American war. As of now I can only find information about the General on ancestry.

The trunk is blue jean canvas on the outside, leather straps, brass finishes, and wooden slats for support. When you open it up you get a antique smell of old books and there's a compartment on top with hinges that lifts up to the bottom of the trunk. There is a few scuff marks, a broken handel, and no key. I can't take a picture of the side, where it says Gen J H Barkley, because it's butted up next to a refrigerator.

But you have my word the writing is on the side painted in white. The lock says Chas T Wilt, made on October 2, 1883, and made in Chicago IL.
