This highly hand carved chestnut panel is from France and it dates to the late 1900's. It is in classic Breton style depicting a Breton with a pipe with her daughter.
The carving is very deep and three dimensional with highly detailed sections. Faces are finely carved and expressive it's pretty rare in this folk-art style, there are many details in the costumes. It is in very good antique condition with no nick and no scratches. The workers of the workshop of Breton sculpture and art of Jean-Joseph Le Rest created from 1882 to 1928, buffets, chairs, armchairs, cupboards, benches with files, closed beds with a profusion of spindles.
