Five Artisan Hand-carved Traditional Wooden Images Santos from Puerto Rico

  
A Collection of Five Hand-carved Wooden "Santos" by Local Puerto Rican Artisan, J. Fernandez dated and Signed at the base of each Saints Image. "Santos" are traditionally Hand-carved Sacred Images of wood portraying Catholic Saints venerated by local Puerto Ricans.

Initially "Santos" were only carved of traditional Spanish Catholic Saints, as time went on the Creoles started representing local Caribbean and South American images of their own venerated Saints, sometimes becoming syncretized with images of African Deities and Indigenous Taino Deities. Finally as time passed these "Santos" Images acquired a truly distinctive Puerto Rican Style.

A very valuable and important Puerto Rican Folk Art Collection, as time goes on and these "Santos " Wooden Carvings become Old Vintage Relics.
