Extra Large Vintage Wood Monk From Santa Fe

  
EXTRA LARGE VINTAGE WOOD MONK FROM SANTA FE. This is a very tall, wood-carved monk from an estate in Northern New Mexico, just outside of Santa Fe. It is very old, estimated to be at least 40 years old, perhaps more. The monk's delightful expression remains sweet and kind. Is his smile from his spiritual joy or from his tankard?

No one can say for sure. But he is very happy!

The old wood is very hard, heavy and solid. It was probably painted brown originally, but has also been washed with some type of gray wash/glaze. There is one hairline crack in the base, which has been in the piece for years, as you can tell by looking. This piece will look just as good in a hundred years. Ound in this amazing condition. The monk was carved from one large piece of wood. The size is 17 1/2" tall X 7 1/4" width. The antique patina is a beautiful soft gray. Place him on a sofa/side table or on the floor near other accessories or on his own pedestal. He will look great anywhere!
