This is truly a "Daimyo (Feudal Lord)" class very precious Japanese lacquerware Sake cup from late Edo period (150+ years old). If you are looking for the highest quality example of Japanese Makie, please consider to add this into your collection. In this cup, a peony flower is depicted using Taka-Makie Japanese lacquerware technique. Leaves around the outside of the cup (poto #4 & 5). A flower at the outside bottom (photo #10 & 11).
And probably a kind of armor or harness is depicted inside the cup where you can find phenixes (photo #6 & 7). Taka-Makie was applied only to the first class (expensive) lacquerware works. It can be translated into English as "embossed gilt lacquer work" or "raised lacquer work", which requires a lot of additional works than common Makie works.
