Antique Wood Youth Dining Chair John FOX From Southwest Harbor Me. Mid 1800s
Antique Wooden "John Fox" Youth Chair From Southwest Harbor Maine. Painted Black with Floral Design on Back and "John Fox" painted on top of back, which look like they were originally gilted. I bought this chair in 1976 in a Southwest Harbor, Maine Shop. The owner Lawrence Robinson, told me he was 85 and that he knew John Fox when he was a child and John Fox was an old man, which would place the chair as pre- Civil War. The man owned a real estate business and this antique business so I don't know how much of that was accurate. I tried researching John Fox but told by the township that they had afire in the later 1800s and lost most of the records. Visually it looks old and the under seat looks like is hand shaped. I have no idea when or who painted it black and put John Fox's name. I used this in my kitchen for years until a person who should not have sat on it broke one of them bottom rung. I took it out of the kitchen then. I have the rung but it needs to be professionally repaired. Also the foot stand for a youth was sawed off long ago.
Please look at the pictures and ask me any questions you have about the chair.
