Antique Oak Nautical Machinist Box from the U. A truly one of a kind piece, perfect for those who enjoy antique armed forces and war memorabilia. This was most likely used as a standard utility box upon the U.
The box is crafted of oak, and shows a drastic grain throughout. Each corner of the box is encased in metal and a large push button activated latch keeps the top shut. The inside is solid and strong, the felted top portion was most likely added at a later period, the bottom felt was stripped of the piece. The overall finish of the box is nice, and shines up great. The hand painted calligraphy in yellow is very eye-catching.
The word "Mercedes" was actually misspelled on the box, unfortunately they did not have spell check back then. You'll find surface scratches, minor chipping and blems, but overall it's in good shape. 14 wide x 7 tall x 13.5 deep.
