1894 Hand Made and Hand Painted Church. I last had this neat old church on top of a bookshelf in my living room. I had a Cathedral ceiling in there and had to have something tall to bring the height down a little. I also displayed it once on the long stone hearth in my family room.

It is really a neat example of early folk art. Some of the windows are plastic painted to resemble stained glass. The front of the church has Presbyterien Church A. And yes, that's the way they spelled Presbyterian. The church is 32" Tall, 22" Long, and 15 wide.

When I was younger and living with elderly Grandparents in a small river town, we had a church like this just about a block away from our house on the edge of the neighborhood. I didn't go to that church, but sometimes I hid nearby and watched them dip people in the water of the swift moving river. One time a very large woman walked into the water, her white robe floated up and the preacher reached to push it down and lost his grasp on the woman.

Her bottom sank but the rest of her stayed afloat and soon she was bobbing and dipping farther out with the waves caused by a passing barge. Everyone rushed into the water just in time to grab her before she drifted out to sea.

Over the years, every time I looked at this wonderful church I thought of that day. This item is in the category "Antiques\Primitives".
