Antique American unpainted box with a removable lid likely of Southern origin circa 1890. This box was cleverly put together by a creative artisan carpenter with a walnut frame and oak panels on six bracket feet. There were copper brads used in its joinery. The lid fits snugly over the opening of the box. There is a central diamond shaped escutcheon plate around a keyhole leading to the remains of an interior lock.
