Antique African Wooden Handcarved Club/Staff From Lega People Of DRC

  
Democratic Republic of Congo, Lega people, very pretty and important red wooden staff with shiny patina that belonged to a senior member of the Bwami secret society. Its characteristics locate the rank of the initiate. The handle is surmounted by a head whose notched bulge symbolizes the glottis. The face is convex, heart-shaped, and the ears are stylized.

Beyond its function, this beautiful object has a sculpture of good quality that creates the link with the one who looks at it. This stick could date from the 1940s / 1950s. Good condition except for slight normal wear and small inconsequential cracks.
