Rob Vetter has been working as a professional artist since 2004. A specialist in plein air and studio landscapes, Rob was dismayed at the high price points for original artwork in the gallery model as well as the proliferation of cheap reproductions in online marketplaces. In 2012, after building a backyard shed, Rob recognized in the pile of leftover scrap wood a possible answer to the problem of affordable original art. The 2x4 Landscape was born.
When I began making the 2x4 Landscapes, I felt they finally combined my love of paintings and of things - from the pleasure of a painting of picturesque woods to the pleasure of paint on wood itself. Initially working from photographs to create realistic and recognizable landscapes, the project has become a means of open-ended experimentation with style and subject within a fixed and narrow set of parameters - small piece of wood, single flat brush, six oil colors. It is craft which endeavors to become art, and paintings which aspire to be curios.
