19th Century 1870s Footed Domed Lid Bride Box, Painted Folk Art, From a Maine New England Attic. For your consideration is an early American footed Bride's box from the 1870s or earlier with a domed lid and original hand forged iron handles on each side. Skillfully hand painted with round floral wreaths with initials, inside and out and dated October 9. The box opens via a double hinged lid, and contains two original old hinges. Inside the box is a small covered lid compartment for storage.

Dated 1892, when most likely the box was decorated with paint and past down and gifted to a family member. The lid might be a little bit warped but I think if you found a key you might be able to lock it and the lid would be more closed. The base of this box has a nice lip around it. Long strap hinges on the lid, round nails at the bottom, hinges and the latch are all intact. There is a iron key lock/hasp and ornate metal escutcheon covered key hole.

Unfortunately there is no key. The box has strong dovetailed joint construction.

Circa early/mid 1870's, found in New England. All original box, except paint from the 1892 period. Has great muted soft coloration with wonderful folky decorative elements that are correct for the 1890's period.

In very good overall condition. Wear commensurate with age and use. Inish is satin smooth, with no dents, some wear, few scratches.

Beyond this, my pictures tell the rest of the story. 19" Length x 7.25" Width x 9Height. Brides boxes of this size and condition are hard to find. Don't let this one get away. A wonderful worthy example to add to a collection or start one, a real beauty! We are happy to answer any questions about this item.
