Antique Swedish scutching knife with incised and painted initials "C J D" and date "1859". Imported in 2000 from Kinna, Sweden. Blue background with red, white and black lettering and decoration. Five compass rosettes with red, white, and black petals. Maroon color paint or stain on the undecorated back. A true piece of Swedish folk art demonstrating pride of making and ownership; a dearly cared for, cherished farm tool that was used during the flax harvest season. A few small, inactive worm holes characteristic of Old World origin. Fully hand hewn and carved.
