This carved moon shaped mask is from the Teke people from the Congo area of Africa. It would have been worn by members of the Kidumu Society during special events like funerals, weddings and other celebrations. This restrained mask is adorned with geometric patterns and is unique for its lack of color.

The carving has a nice age patina and only a small amount of rubbing on the horizontal bar as shown in the photos. It is approximately 13.5" (34.3 cm) high X 11.5" (29.2 cm) wide. This beautiful carving will make a wonderful addition to your collection of African, Teke or Ethnographic art. It can easily be hung by attaching a cord through the holes around its rim, and is insect free, showing no sign of active infestation or earlier damage.
