Painted from life below the Rabbit Hash General Store, Tom was working on two portrait commissions nearby and would not miss stopping at Rabbit Hash afterwards. A huge cauldron sits near the water.

The creek is clean and a wonderful place for children to play. Tom would take Helen, his 7-year-old daughter, and she would play with the other children in a nostalgic setting. Little did he know that the creek was clean of broken glass for it was a rule but not the riverbank.

While his daughter was walking in the water in the foreground, she suffered multiple cuts on her feet. Freaked out, Tom carried her to the car and treated her with alcohol much to her shrieking. Tom Lohre learned by living with master portrait painter, Ralph Wolf Cowan.

Tom painted the hands, animals, pants, etc. That the master did not care to paint while cooking and cleaning. They used the traditional method of the Students Arts League of New York City.

Searching for new subjects, Tom painted the eruption of Mount Saint Helens while it erupted from life, twenty miles to the south on Tum Tum Mountain. He also painted the first space shuttle from life, 200'feet from it, under armed guard, the day before it took off.

He continued to paint major events by attending the Jet Propulsion Laboratory with press credentials to paint the planets as Voyager II encountered Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune. What he discovered was painting a major event does not make a great painting. After graduating from college at Northern Kentucky University 1976 with a degree in Communications, he worked on Madison Avenue in advertising. He quit after the first year. Slowly becoming a fine artist living in New York City for nineteen years before moving back home to Cincinnati.

He met his wife on a return home visit and she did not want to travel the. Circuit of Nantucket, New York and Palm Beach painting for the wealthy.

He continues to paint portraits, genre and radical impressionist paintings. The item "Rising Sun, Indiana from Rabbithash, Kentucky, 16 12, oil on board, Aug.
