This vintage figure is in'natural' primitive condition, collected in in Papua New Guinea in the 1950's. The wood and original colors are untouched. This figure is balanced and interesting; the female figure with a beautiful carved bird on her head. She is glorious in her strength and in her her mystery. The figure is powerful, truly from the forest, bright and primitive; a remarkable piece that could only originate in a remote and far away place like Papua New Guinea. A vintage example of the Wosera Abelam Culture , Sepik River region. Rare by nature and the source of the figure, difficult to locate and almost impossible to collect today as in the 1950's.
It is a great piece to collect and appreciate; Papua New Guinea and the remote islands in the region are home to some of the oldest and most interesting tribal cultures in the world.
